Indoor Safe Heaters

Over the past year, new technologies have appeared in the portable heater market that permit the use of SOME heaters indoors, if certain instructions and precautions are followed. These heaters are different in design and application than other propane-fueled products.

If a heater may properly be used indoors, it will say that on the packaging and in the instructions. ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING THESE INDOOR HEATERS.

Portable heaters for temporary heat indoors include:

Catalytic

  • 3,000 BTU
  • Use in a ventilated area -- check instructions for specific ventilation requirements
  • Burning occurs at a lower temperature
  • Burning occurs inside a pad -- there is no open flame element
  • Cannot be used for cooking
  • Uses 1 lb. cylinders only

Heater with an Oxygen Depletion System (ODS)

  • 4,000 and 9,000 BTU settings
  • For indoor use only
  • ODS will shut off heater if oxygen levels fall below acceptable levels
  • Ceramic grid heating element is protected by wire grid
  • Uses 1 lb. propane cylinder; can be connected to 20 lb. tank with hose connection
  • Free standing or wall mount
